One of the most depressing thoughts is, if you sat any of these candidates down in front of a standard laptop (let them choose Windows or Mac), ask them to turn it on, open a browser, open GMail and make a filter for a specific email to go into a folder ... none would be able to perform the task. I'd surely have loved to see a debate moderator spring this one on them.
And we want these folks to oversee our country's internet security.
Of course, they'll appoint some sort of 'cyber guru' to handle things. But if they themselves don't understand any of the basics, we mortgage our future to a whole lot more ignorance than I'd prefer.
