Good points, but I maintain that a) having a long career record and b) her sex, she would have been a tough go to get into office in spite of everything else.
There remain huge swaths of America that still will not vote for women in political office - and this has nothing to do with Fox News or the right - just with leftover patriarchal traditions (that need to die an early death).
We've seen many times what having a long political career does to candidates. Kerry is the most recent, and 'swiftboating'. The record is a big target that can be endlessly nitpicked. This is why Governors have been more successful than Congresspeople lately.
Now we have a political naif with no record winning the contest. We need minimum requirements for folks who want to stand for President. A law degree would be a good start.
