I've worked some pretty hard blue-collar jobs. Casting porcelain. Masonry. Prestressed concrete. Noone really thought they'd get ahead. It was more "I work hard, bleed, suffer. You should too." So I look askance at these sorts of studies because I never see that reality reflected.
