The famous injunction to “cultivate our garden” means just that: make something happen, often with your hands. It remains, as it was meant to, a reproach to all ham-fisted intellects and deskbound brooders. Getting out to make good things happen beats sitting down and thinking big things up.
I'm sharply reminded of how many times, over the last seventeen-plus years, media has heralded the 'end of conservatism' [as recently as the first week of November 2016] and the 'end of liberalism' online. And many more decades before that in print.
If all your protest consists of reposting/retweeting SNL skits every Monday, you might as well start tatting doilies.
